Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second, fantasy adventure film in the popular Harry Potter films series, based on the novel by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The film was released on November 3, 2002 and was directed by returning director, Christopher Columbus. The screenplay was adapted by returning screenwriter, Steven Kloves.

A college reunion brings four friends back together in this comedy. The movie is based on the infamous "Stanford Prison Experiment" conducted in 1971. A makeshift prison is set up in a research lab, complete with cells, bars and surveillance cameras. For two weeks 20 male participants are hired to play prisoners and guards. The 'prisoners' are locked up and have to follow seemingly mild rules, and the 'guards' are told simply to retain order without using physical violence. Everybody is free to quit at any time, thereby forfeiting payment. In the beginning the mood between both groups is insecure and rather emphatic. But soon quarrels arise and the wardens employ ever more drastic sanctions to confirm their authority.

Tekkonkinkreet takes place in Treasure Town, a city with a fluid sense of reality—in most ways it seems like a gritty Japanese metropolis, but several characters, including our two heroes, Black and White, have supernatural powers. Black and White are street kids who can fly, and who watch over Treasure Town, though the source of their powers and their history as a crime-fighting team is murky—among the many storytelling flaws in Tekkonkinkreet is the fact that it's a superhero movie that never bothers to fully explore the mythology of its heroes. Once one gets past the vague sense of context and setting, however, the film settles into a mostly compelling story in which Black and White, who have exceptional fighting as well as flying skills, take on a combination of Yakuza gangsters and alien assassins who are trying to take control of Treasure Town. The specifics of this battle are regularly glossed over or ignored, but Arias keeps the audience hooked with a series of dynamically edited action sequences and a structure that keeps the film moving from one set piece to the next with a minimum of slow spots.

Jason Patric stars as ace art forger Harry Donovan, eager to get out of the counterfeiting business and become a legitimate painter, but willing to take on one last, monumental job: creating a fake Rembrandt that will fool absolutely everyone. The promised money is good but the clients are creeps: gun-toting art dealers who ultimately set up Harry for a murder, forcing him to go on the run across Europe with an art expert (Irene Jacob) in tow. The film has a major obstacle in Donovan himself, an arrogant and unlikable jerk played with unappealing self-absorption by Patric. Worrying about this guy's fate is not an inviting prospect, but there are compensations in Jacob's smart performance and Rod Steiger's emotionally raw presence as Harry's mentor father. Director John Badham takes particular delight in penetrating the arcane world of forgery and in detailing Harry's working methods, from intense research to color selections to choices of tools and aging processes. Badham keeps us constantly curious and fascinated by this unholy marriage of expertise and deceit, and at least nominally interested in Harry's efforts to free himself of the criminal squandering of his talents.

Though always living in fear of Rio's return, the older man has married and become stepfather to the woman's grown daughter Louisa (Pina Pellicer). Rio feigns forgiveness, but all the while plots revenge against his double-crossing former partner. More complications arise when Rio falls in love with the beautiful Louisa. The emotional and power struggles begin to turn as Longworth suspects Rio's true motives!
